New video: The Unified Namespace Explained
A quick crash course on UNS — what it is, what it isn’t, and why it’s really about data management (not just technology)
New video alert!
Two weeks ago I published a new quick crash course on the Industrial Data Platform Capability Map. In that video I already promised to create a follow-up one just about the UNS.
This one is actually a logical follow-up on my recent article: “What I (don’t) like about UNS“ — if you haven’t read that one yet, I’d recommend starting there. It sets the stage for what I’m tackling in this video.
In the video, I walk through:
The actual problem we’re trying to solve (hint: it’s not just system spaghetti)
How the UNS concept works — and more importantly, the common misconceptions around it
Why this is fundamentally a data management and IT/OT cooperation challenge, not a technology-first decision
I’m not trying to debate the concept here. There’s plenty I like about the approach. But as always, I’m sharing my current thinking — which means it’s a work in progress. Comments welcome.
Anyway… here’s the video. Have fun watching!
Next week we’ll be back with a normal podcast episode — this one will be about Data Governance!
See you then.
